Dr Greg Trainor
C O N S I D E R (Gallery) is an online presence developed to showcase the art, painting and other artworks of Dr Greg Trainor.
He has been painting relatively large size paintings in Abstract and Neo Expressionist type painting styles for many years.
He has been very fortunate in happily gifting most of these works to family and friends and has been blessed with some 40 to 50 large scale paintings gracing the homes, apartments, beach houses and offices in different parts of the world.
This has sometimes included producing paintings for family and friends of an existing piece of art they have seen on their travels and where he has then produced something inspired by that artist painting style. These are the exception to the bulk of his art output which is original work.

If people like it that is great, if they don’t silence or constructive feedback on what could be improved is always welcome.
What he would be delighted to do and one of the main reasons this online gallery has been developed for is to accept commissions on any of these pieces of work. As they are either Abstract or Neo Expressionist in style, you can be guaranteed that no two paintings will ever be the same.
Greg looks forward to engaging with people that are interested in these forms of art practice style and particularly with those that would like their own versions (e.g. colour selections and size orientation of paintings to suit their homes, apartments or offices.

What’s in the name. It’s intended to be very simple and asks visitors to the site to simply ‘C O N S I D E R’ what has been produced and put forward on the site most hopefully for people to enjoy.

Abstract Expressionist Art
The emphasis with Abstract Expressionist painting, is stating the obvious, producing something Abstract with no real representational or easily identifiable forms.
Greg regards Abstract Expressionist Art as a very free following style of painting, dynamic and involving many shapes, sizes, forms of brushwork and other implements across the canvas.
Abstract artists and abstract expressionist painters can be very enjoyable to watch – the movie Pollack – is a great example of how Jackson Pollack went about his ‘drip paintings’, which are widely acclaimed in the art world and have gone on to become priceless.
Fortunately, under great public duress, the Australian Government had the incredible foresight to Purchase Jackson Pollack’s ‘Blue Poles’ painting back in the 1970’s for under $2M. Today “Blue Poles’ hangs in the Australian National Gallery in Canberra and is priceless.
Other examples of great work and famous Abstract Expressionists include Mark Rothko and Willem de Koonig.​
Neo Expressionism
This is the style of artwork that interests Greg the most and together with Abstract Expressionist style influences and how he goes about producing his original work.
Neo expressionism usually includes high colour, vibrant backgrounds but includes recognisable objects and figures, which are often exaggerated and clearly applied with a lot of emotion and energy. They often used mixed media and are very spontaneous.
Great examples of Neo-Expressionism can be found in the works of Jean Michel Basquiat and Julian Schnabel.
Ironically, Basquiat died of a drug overdose at the young age of 27 in the late 1980’s (leaving behind a very significant body of work) but years later Schnabel would produce and direct a film on Basquiat’s life.
Jean Michel Basquiat is the artist and art style that Greg enjoys the most and has most influenced what he likes and how he has tried and continue to try to develop his style. It cannot be copied, but the colour, energy, symbolism and emotion are what stands out and is what, in his own way he tries to bring out in the artwork.
Greg has fortunately and deliberately been to numerous Jean Michel Basquiat exhibitions in different cities around the world and the work is very inspiring. He has collected countless reference books, print pieces and video content on Basquiat’s work and life. Basquiat was truly a very productive, interesting and unique artist.
Is this new
Greg has had many years of personal enjoyment painting and producing pieces of art for his own pleasure. Greg’s wife Karen has been an amazing support of his artistic endeavours as evidenced by the many original works on display in their home.

He has been overwhelmed with the many requests he has had from family friends and colleagues for original paintings which has been the source of unbelievable satisfaction noting that for most people that produce paintings and art this is one of the highest and most enduring rewards – knowing that someone else enjoys what you have done.

Putting my work out to an audience he doesn’t know is new for Greg. He is sure there is a natural bias with family and friends, and he has been lucky to have had that. So now it will be interesting to see how others view his work.

Looking forward to seeing how people Consider his work and whether they enjoy it or not. At the very least, the experience of getting it to this stage and now having a new and additional home for some of his work in the form of a website has been great.
